MY THEORIES, PARALLELS I'VE NOTICED, AND OTHER ASSORTED THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS ON TWIN PEAKS

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ALL OF TWIN PEAKS, INCLUDING THE RETURN, FIRE WALK WITH ME, AND THE BOOKS. VIEW AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION

  1. At the end of season 3, Andy is accepted up into the white lodge. We know that in order to access the white lodge, one must be pure of heart and essentially full of love. This is foreshadowed in the first episode, as Andy's first reaction to Laura's body is sobbing and being overcome with emotion and grief for this stranger he never knew alive, and that part of him, although now less of a hindrance to his occupation, is still a core part of his being.
  2. Hawk mentions how his ancestors believe that the "dream people" wander...coming back to this later,,something something posession and how Bob, the Arm, and others find assorted hosts throughout the series?
  3. Leland attempts to return to work saying he just needs something to occupy his mind...alluding to Bob fully posessing him,,,Ben Horne sends him home and guess what happens next
  4. Another parallel: the aesthetics of One Eyed Jack's mirroring that of the Black Lodge; the events of Cooper etc. breaking in to rescue the damsel in distress mirroring what he attempts to do for Annie Blackburn at the end of the season,,,?
  5. The record skipping noise playing on repeat while Leland is being possessed (and arguably Sarah as well) is Quite Similar to the sound described as being "Judy" but I will come back to this point when I rewatch the return note: the sound temporarily goes away while the pale horse appears
  6. the booth that James and Donna are shown in in the Roadhouse while Julee Cruise performs is the same booth centered at least once in nearly every episode of the return
  7. the bluish spotlight shining down on Maddy right before her death - blue rose vibes
  8. dougie jones has a similar cadence to that of cooper while he's interacting with the irl form of the giant in real life -- 'getting warmer now...'
  9. fire walk with me: the flickering blue light is a tool used to indicate when we are seeing crossover from the lodges into normal everyday life, it is a parallel to the blue rose (being something unnatural) and shows up when lodge entities present themselves in the regular world
